Did you know about Operation Desert Strike?

cruise missile launch  This is one of those many operations that we have conducted that no one actually knows much about at all.

This operation consisted of a large scale cruise missile strike against targets in Northern Iraq. B-52 Bombers were also used in coordination with the cruise missiles.

The reason for this attack was to quench an Iraqi Army assault on the Kurdish population in the region. It seemed to cause Saddam to withdraw his forces from the area but had little actual effect against Iraqi targets.

The US launched a total of 44 cruise missiles from three different ships in the gulf.

The US has conducted many of this type low scale operation over the years. Typically you don't hear much about them unless something goes wrong.
