Do you Know the Purpose of a Campaign Hat?

campaign hat  The definition of a Campaign Hat is a wide brimmed felt hat with the corners pinched in. You may recognize it as the hat that drill instructors wear, but it is used by other organizations such as State Troopers as well.

I always knew them as Smokey Bear Hats because of the Smokey Bear character that I used to see on TV as a child.

The campaign hat is one possession that you don't want to touch because with drill instructors and drill sergeants are passionate about them and what they represent.

The drill sergeant has to be the epitome of a soldier as the drill instructor has to set the example for the trainees under his or her charge. The trainee will be no more than the example that he or she sees from the drill instructor.

The drill sergeant or instructor has to appear to be superman in the eyes of the trainee and they go through great lengths to maintain that impression. Some will change to freshly starched uniforms several times a day in order to do so. I for one am happy that these professionals take their jobs so seriously.
