Drones have been used with great success in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, and even on our southern border with Mexico. They are probably the single most productive piece of military technology within the last decade. This is my opinion only don't you don't have to write me to argue about it.
The U.S. Navy has recently introduced the X-47B which is officially labeled an “unmanned combat air system.” The unit is located aboard the USS Harry S. Truman where it will be tested at sea.
I can see where this piece of equipment would pay off in dividends if it does all that the Navy expects it to do. Imagine unmanned drones being sent on reconnaissance missions or equipped with guided missiles or torpedoes They would probably spare the lives and use of many Navy pilots and free them up to perform other critical missions.
Since the drone is smaller than a regular aircraft it would be harder to detect with radar and other detection equipment and would be able to slip into and through enemy air defenses and possibly ship formations.
