What Exactly is Guerrilla Warfare?

 The term "Guerrilla Warfare is derived from a Spanish term which means "little war." In guerilla warfare a small outnumbered, and ill equipped group of people have to use irregular tactics to fight a larger military force.

The goal of fighting this way is to wear down the resolve of your enemy and force him to eventually give up the fight. The guerrilla force will not be able to win the war outright because it doesn't have the size and resources but when the political and military situation is right it can be successful. Such was the case with the War in Vietnam with the United States and the War in Afghanistan with the Soviet Union.

 Sometimes when you watch a football game on TV you will see a weaker team use trick plays and deception to try to score because they know that they are not strong enough to win otherwise.

The biggest weakness that a large army has is their predictability. They must operate all things according to a rigid protocol in order for anything to work. The guerrilla force will take advantage of this if they know what they are doing. They can plan their actions on the scripted response that the enemy will make to any attack or action against it.

This is the kind of warfare that our Vietnam Veteran ring customers faced in the Vietnam war. It required us to come up with different tactics to try to combat guerrilla warfare. This was frustrating to our soldiers because the hit and run tactics of the guerrillas caused casualties that we couldn't reciprocate.
