Obviously the Taliban has quietly worked hard on infiltrating the ANSF while we were not paying attention. They did announce their intentions on doing so but we took them for granted. This is a setback to our plans to exfiltrate the country but we are not going to allow it to stop our progress.
The advantage that they have is cultural ties and the sympathy of many of the local Afghan nationals which is hard for my American mind to understand. Blood is thicker than water however. I wonder how they will do business after we leave.
The biggest concern for us is what will happen once we leave the country. With the percent of infiltration by the Taliban estimated to be greater than 25% their day to day operations would be seriously jeapordized. If the Taliban decided to go on an all out offensive the consequences could be dire.
Afghanistan will remain a work in progress for a very long time to come. The best thing that we can do is to get out of there as soon as we possibly can. We have committed ourselves however and we just can't kick them to the curb completely. Our military ring customers of all branches of service, particularily those in Special Operations will have a long road to travel before they can be shed of Afghanistan.
