Order a Paratrooper's Ring

US Army Airborne basic parachutist badge.gifAirborne Jump Wings are also known as the Parachutist Badge. This badge is also affectionately known as a snow cone among many troops who are familiar with what it really stands for.

Jump Wings are awarded to every troop who can complete basic airborne training in Fort Benning Georgia. This course is a physically demanding course in which the trainee is first taught how to land during a parachute jump, how to properly exit an aircraft while in flight, and how to control the chute during the descent.

The recruit has to complete a total of five qualifying jumps in order to be awarded his or her jump wings. One of the jumps has to be at night and two have to be carrying a full combat load.

Trainees do a lot of running during the course. The purpose of this is to strengthen their leg muscles so that they can withstand the impact of a parachute landing. Landing with a military parachute is the equivalent of jumping off of a two story building. I have seen jump masters train their troops by having them jump off of second story buildings.

This is commando training and as such it is very physically demanding. Airborne training is more repetition that anything else so the recruit has to have endurance and stamina.

Much of the training incurs jumping from a platform and falling on the ground so it will wear the trainee down over the period of a days time.

They also do a lot of exercises which are designed t strengthen the mid section or trunk of the body. Contrary to what you may see on TV or sport jumping exhibitions, parachute landings are quite hard. If a trainee or even an experienced jumper does not land correctly he or she could quite easily break both his legs and other bones. Buy an Airborne Ring
