Those of you who remember Operation Desert Storm should remember that air power was really showcased in that war. The major difference of that war was that the press got to show America more than they have ever seen of action as it happened.
Since the Air Campaign lasted about a month before the ground campaign officially began America got to see new technology in action. Smart bombs were used in great numbers and the public was awed by the destruction that they caused.
This campaign showed the world just how important it is to have effective air support before you begin a ground campaign.
The stated purpose of the war was to expel the Iraqi Army from Kuwait and restore it as a sovereign country but I sincerely believe that there was another agenda in mind. For one thing we needed to incapacitate the Iraqi Army by destroying its equipment.
