What was the Women's Army Corps?

wacs

The Women's Army Corps was founded in 1942 out of necessity to release men to serve in combat units. Public opinion was against this but the good thing about it is that necessity gave women a chance to show what they could do.
Men were needed for service so the purpose of the WAC's was to free up men who were serving in necessary but non combat roles. Of course women were eventually integrated fully into the command structure and units of the military and eventually allowed to serve in combat and combat support roles.

I for one don't think women should be allowed in combat because of the negative psychological impact there would be if women were killed or captured. I also think that women prisoners might be subjected to more physical abuse by male captors.

Some of our enemies would love nothing more than to capture an American female as a prisoner of war. Of course the choice of whether to enter a combat assignment is a personal one and women who decide to do so are fully aware of the possible consequences.

Women today serve in almost every area of  our armed forces and are an invaluable asset to our country. When women began to be inducted into the armed forces we had to add the different categories of womens military rings for women into our military ring inventory.
