What Exactly was a Gunboat?

gunboat  The definition of a Gunboat is a military boat that has one or more guns mounted on it. You can get an idea of the mission that it would have to accomplish because of the name that it has. The gunboat is not a battleship per say, but it may need to use firepower from time to time just to be able to get out of trouble.

Gunboats are used for very specific missions. Some examples of gunboats are PT boats, Fast boats, and PBR's or Patrol River Boats.

Gunboats can be used in an almost unlimited number of applications. Their use is dependent on the situation and the ingenuity of the fleet commander. Gunboats are used primarily in Riverine operations or other operations close to land or in the littoral combat zone. Military Ring Express
