On an idyllic lake surrounded by woods and a double row of mesh-and-razor-wire fences about 100 miles north of Warsaw, there stands a secluded villa that the CIA once used to interrogate - and allegedly torture - top al-Qaida suspects.
The question then is are there secret prisons scattered in various locations where the CIA would house and interrogate and maybe torture suspected or known terrorists? My answer is that I don't know but I don't doubt it at all.
On the grounds of the Polish intelligence-training academy and nicknamed "Markus Wolf" for the former East German spy chief, it's the focal point for a top-secret probe that Polish prosecutors have launched into how their government tolerated rampant violations of international and Polish law.
If former officials are brought to trial, or if the stacks of classified files in the prosecutors' offices are made public, the result will be revelations about an American anti-terrorism operation whose details U.S. officials are fighting to keep secret. Of course officials won't be brought to trial and we will never see those documents in question so we will know but we won't really know.
The CIA has too many resources at their disposal to allow the world to catch them in a fault.
I won't make a comment about the morality of the situation because there is no telling how many lives of innocent Americans were saved by such an operation. My fear is that we may have become as our enemy in order to defeat him.
