Could we be Looking for a Worldwide Drone Network?

300px-081131-F-7734Q-001  Plans to base unarmed American surveillance drones in the African nation of Niger highlight the Obama administration's growing concern about extremist influences in the volatile region. They also raise tough questions about how to contain al-Qaida and other militant groups without committing U.S. ground forces in yet another war.

I believe that this may be the beginning of a worldwide drone network which is definitely going to be necessary because there is just no other way. Al-Qaeda is just like water in the sense that they will migrate away from US pressure to the place of least resistance. This has caused them to spread throughout the Middle East.

U.S. officials said the Pentagon is planning a new drone base in northwestern Africa but the plans are not yet complete. It would provide more extended U.S. aerial surveillance of militants in the region without risking the loss of air crews. The main U.S. drone base in Africa is in Djibouti in East Africa.
Niger has accepted the idea of hosting unarmed U.S. drones as well as conventional and special operations troops to advise and assist Niger's military on border security, but it has not endorsed armed U.S. Predator strikes or the launching of U.S. special operations raids from their territory, according to a senior U.S. military official briefed on the matter. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly.

This would be best for both countries because it would give the US increased surveillance in the area and an opportunity to contain the activities of the terrorists. On the other hand it would be a great training benefit for African forces and a chance for them to become acquainted with the use of US tactics and technology.

There are too many al-Qaeda militants in too many different countries for the US to be able to deal with effectively. Other countries have lined up to support efforts to contain them because they do not want them operating within their borders. This is not something that will go away any time soon.

We may in fact be looking at a world wide drone surveillance system. this may be a deliberate US move in order to increase its influence and world wide control.
